Utilization Gauge – Every land manager should have one of these handy little instruments for measuring the utilization of grasses.
Step 1: Determine grass species.
Step 2: Measure average ungrazed height.
Step 3: Measure average grazed height.
Step 4: Turn the wheel…voila…you have your utilization and residual calculated for you. By the way, it fits in your pocket.
